High Passes & Crying Rivers: Birding Kashmir & Ladakh

Image

Bordering the edges of Earth, Kashmir and Ladakh stretch across rugged valleys, glacier-fed rivers, high-altitude lakes, and stark floodplains where extremes of climate shape rare birdlife. Migrants from the Palearctic and special local breeders like the Kashmir Flycatcher, Ibisbill, and Black-necked Crane weave a tapestry of species found nowhere else in India. Every riverbank shuffle, every scree slope, every marsh at sunset holds possibility—and high skies ring with winged echoes.
